Carn Wheelers Annual Dinner & Awards Night
On Friday night almost 50 members filed into the warm surroundings of the Shepherds rest for our annual club dinner and awards night. Proceedings got under way as the usually do, in front of a turf fire and the bar the post mortem of the 2013 season, boasts about the volume and intensity of winter training and of course aspirations for the fast approaching season discussed over a pint of stout or two.
Our call to the dinner table saw no change in topic as the merits of interval training and turbo vs rollers debates raged on, while the staff of the Shepherds rest hastened the starters out to a hungry party, perhaps fearful that intense discussion and empty bellies might lead to an undesirable altercation in their establishment. If music soothes the beast then prawn cocktails and vol au vents can soothe the hungry cyclist and soon conversation moved to ‘do you remember when’, often followed by raucous laughter while Carn stalwart Jim Bradley was lauded for a heroic effort leading a brave band of cyclists out the pervious Sunday in weather conditions that caused the majority of us to retreat back under our duvet.
With the meal over the attention turned to the awards presentation, 2013 has been another great year for the club. The high number of our youth riders in attendance on the night was no surprise to any, the green and black has been a regular feature on podiums throughout the year and this year the night belonged to them. Other racing regulars picked up awards for victories in a variety of disciplines both on and off road. The full list of winners can be seen below.
The club would like to thank all its members who came along to enjoy the evening and a special thanks to Colin and all the staff at the Shepherds Rest who as always provided an exquisite meal and impeccable service and hospitality.
