Carn Wheelers on the Podium at Bellurgan Park
On Sunday the 6th of July
the Carn Wheelers MTB squad made the journey to round 6 of the NPS MTB league
2014, which was hosted by Cuchulainn c.c. in Belurgan Park which is private
estate near Dundalk. The estate is an excellent venue and with many club
members having been there before we were all looking forward to a great days
racing .
The racing as always
started with the youth races and our first competitor was Eimer
Skelly in the under 8 girls race and after a really tough race Eimer took a
superb 2nd place.
Next up were Ryan
Skelly, Sarah Elder and Sinead McGuigan in the under 12 races. Sinead
unfortunately had a crash and although no serious injuries, was unable to
finish. Bad luck Sinead. Hhowever
after a great race Ryan came home strongly in 8th place and in the
girls Sarah rode really well to take 1st place.
The under 14 riders had
3 half laps of the adult course to do and after some great racing Niall Skelly
took 8th place in the boys race and Emma Elder took the win in the girls race.
Our final youth riders
were Sean Bradley and Niamh Skelly in the under 16 race. They had to complete 2 full laps of the adult
course. Both riders continued to impress with their great form this season with
Sean taking a brilliant 4th place and Niamh taking 3rd place in the girls
race.
Our senior riders were
also well represented with the S4 riders first up and taking to the line were
Gareth Skelly, Paul Taylor and Peter Doherty. After 2 hard laps Paul came in
2nd place with Gareth taking 8th and Peter coming home in 16th place.
Martin Bradley was next
up in the S3 race and in his usual fashion put the hammer down and powered
round to finish in 5th place.
Our last competitor on
the day was Ryan Walsh who was racing with the S2 men. This was another very
fast race with Ryan riding very strongly for a 14th place finish.
A big well done to
everyone who travelled to represent the club on Sunday and put in some
brilliant performances from young to the not so young. We now have a group of
mtb racers to compete strongly in every category but I would encourage
anyone who would like to give racing a try to go for it there is always
someone to do battle with throughout each category as everyone has therir own
personal duels during each race and the friendly banter and family atmosphere
makes each round a great day out.
Finally a big thanks to
the host club Cuchulainn who proved once again to be excellent hosts and ran a
well organised race.
