Carn Wheelers Road Race and TT League
The last 2 weeks have finished off the Road Race and TT Leagues, with Wood Road RR on 13th August and Curran TT on 20thAugust.
The final Road race of the season was well represented by our own club members as well as local Spires CC with 5 laps off the Wood Road course. With youth included in group 1 of this race there was a good mix of ages present. The groups went off at their various time gaps, with scratch group working very well together to close down the leaders. AT the start of lap 3 of 5 it was Mark Glendining of Spires and Joe McCrory of Carn who broke away to close down the leaders on their own and they began to open up a decent gap on the group behind also. Starting the last lap it was the sole youth of Carn’s Cathir Doyle leading the race, with Mark and Joe in pursuit, and indeed they had to work hard to catch him with only a few miles to go. Young Cathir had no problem keeping up with the 2 riders when caught and never missed a turn working his way through with ease. On the final hill climb to the finish it was Spires who took the victory with Mark finishing ahead of Joe and Cathir, but this was a great ride by the young Carn man and we will sure be seeing more of him in future years to come! Joe’s 2nd place on the night was enough to take the RR league with Paddy Kelly in 2nd place overall from Johnny Taylor in 3rd.
At the final 5m TT of the season on the Curran course there was a low turnout with other events on the same evening, but with the league still open and with points to gain, it was Carn Johnny Taylor who took the victory with the fastest time on the night to claim the overall TT league prize, with Raphael Scullion of Spires 2nd and young Cathir Doyle again on the podium taking 3rd.
Thanks to everyone who helped out with these events all season.
Road Race Co-ordinator: Anthony Bradley with the help of Barney Mulholland and Tommie McGrath who were ever present, and all the marshals’ and indeed the riders of Carn Wheelers and other local clubs in the area for supporting these events.
With just the final Hill Climb TT left on Thursday 3rd September at 7.15 starting at Lisnamuck Cross Roads, we looking forward to seeing you all there to test yourself and see who will become "King of the Hills” for 2015!
