A1/A2/A3 Race

Johnny Taylor, Joe McCrory, Barry Russel, Johnny McConomy, Gerard Scullion all lined up for the 6 laps of the 11 mile circuit, and when a break of 4 riders went early on and built up a gap of nealy 2 mins over the first few laps, it left the rest of the main field to try to attack to bridge the gap over.  After a few unsuccessful attempts by the Carn men to get away from the main field, Joe managed to get into a group of 10 riders who closed the gap to the leaders to within 20 seconds, but once they got close, the riders lets the leaders slip away again and as the group fragmented they just managed to stay away from the main field with Joe missing out on a top 10 placing, and with the rest of the lads finishing safely in the main bunch, after a few attempts to break clear of the field also.

A4 Race

For this race, Tony O’Doherty, Declan McGarity, Dean Lockhart, Padraig Dougan and Shane Elder were all representing Carn. The first laps started at a very fast pace at over 25mph, but then it settled after this, with the Carn men all riding strong. As no-one was able to break clear the guys were keeping their legs for the finish. In the final KM there were 2 crashes, with firstly Padraig and Shane both caught up in this which left 3 lads remaining.

Dean,Tony, and Decky were all well positioned, but when someone made a dig to get away  there was another  crash with about 400m to go, which Dean was unfortunately involved in, but left Tony with an opportunity to make a break and he put in a big effort to ride clear of the main field to solo home to victory with Decky not far behind in 3rd.

1st -  Tony O’Doherty (Carn Wheelers)

3rd - Declan McGarrity (Carn Wheeelers)

Women’s Race

In the women’s race the riders worked well together for the first 2 laps.  At the end of the second lap Mairead broke away on the final climb of the lap but was reeled in after a few minutes only to be counter attacked by Lorraine Jeffers of East Tyrone CC; Lorraine managed to stay clear of the group for half of the lap but was caught before the final straight.  On the final climb to the finish Mairead was climbing well but was out sprinted by Jane Millar and Trudi Brown to finish 3rd.  A great attacking race by Mairead, which will set her up well going into Omagh 3 day in a few weeks’ time.

3rd - Mairead McGurk (Carn Wheelers)
