round 1 of the ulster mtb league at rostrevor
Round 1 of the 2015 ulster mtb league took place today at Rostrevor hosted by Dromara cc .
A strong contingent of Carn Wheelers made the journey to Rostrevor today for the first round of this years league series ,it turned out to be a very successful day for the club with some brilliant results .
In the youth races Eimer Skelly ,Travis Harkness and Curtis Neill got things underway in the under 10 race after a crash at the start of the boys race Curtis was unable to finish but Travis recovered to claim 5th place and in the girls race Eimer also out in a strong performance to claim 4th .Next were the under 12 riders with Katie Neill and Ryan Skelly taking part with Katie taking 1st place and Ryan getting 4th .It was then time for the under 14 race with Niall Skelly Sarah Elder and Anna Russell taking part there was more success for the club in this race also with Sarah taking 2nd and Anna 3rd in the girls race and Niall took another solid 4th place finish the last of the youth riders today was Niamh Skelly and Emma Elder in the under 16 race and tackling the full adult lap Niamh stormed to victory with a superb ride and Emma battled hard for 2nd place .
Arguably the result of the day for Carn Wheelers was from Sean Bradley who took a brilliant win in the junior mens race another great performance from Sean.
Next up were the senior 2 and senior 3 men with Carn Wheelers having 3 riders in S2 and 5 in S3
the S2 men were first away with 4 laps of the tough and technical course disaster struck early for Ryan Walsh with a broken chain ending his race early however Barry Russell and Martin Bradley powered their way around the 4 laps to finish really well in the top end of the race .
In the Senior 3 race Nigel Gibson, Tomas McElwee ,Darryl Mullan , Gareth Skelly and Graeme Elliott took to the line again a mechanical failure forced a rider to abandon with Darryl being forced to stop this time the rest of our riders forged ahead and showed great skill and determination to finish a tough race with Tomas and Nigel safely in the top 10 and Graeme and Gareth following closely behind .I don't have the finalised results for the Senior races but i will update them as soon as i get them .
Well done to everyone who took part today it was great to see you all fight hard from start to finish and once again the club can be very proud of the riders who pulled on the green and black jersey you were all brilliant
Thanks to Dromara for hosting a brilliant first round to get the 2015 ulster league underway .
