SUCCESS FOR CARN WHEELERS AT THE DAVAGH ENDURO AND YOUTH ENDURO
The Davagh Enduro was run over the weekend of the 27th/28th of june this years event included the first ever youth enduro in Ireland and it proved to be an incredibly popular and successful event.
On the saturday all the competitors were given an hours instruction from Colin Ross of Rosco lines and Mark Harvey cycling Ireland off road development officer this got all the young riders champing at the bit to hit the trails and get started .The youth categories were run in the same age groups as the xc league u8, u10,u12,u14
theu16 were included with the adults on sunday .
Each group had a team leader who made sure all riders made it safely to the start of every stage as this was the first event of its kind for these age groups everyone wasn't entirely sure what to expect but as the day unfolded it turned out to be a massive success with all the competitors smiling from ear to ear from the excitement of the day racing eagerly reading the timing print outs to see their final results.
in the under 8 Patrick Elliott came home in 5th place his confidence is really back now after his nasty crash earlier in the season. Results got even better for the carn wheelers as Travis Harkness took first place in the under 10 boys category and in the under 14 girls Carn Wheelers had a clean sweep of the podium with Emma Elder in first place sister Sarah in 2nd and Darcy Harkness in 3rd all 3 seperated by about 30 seconds though Sarah thinks a flat tyre on stage 4 may have cost her the win discussions are ongoing between the 2 sisters .
Sunday say the turn of the senior riders and Carn Wheelers were again represented in the sport category and not to be outdone by the youth they again pulled out some brilliant results with Phillip Harkness taking 1st place stephen law took 5th place and Norman Atkins took 21st place these are fantastic results from aa field of over 100 riders .
A special mention must go to Michael Regan and the organisers who put on a tremendous event on both days and our young riders are hoping other organisers follow suit and include youth categories at their events in the future a great weekend racing for all involved .
