Sunday Cycle 19th April 2015

A bright crisp morning with the promise of a warm sunny day brought a fantastic response for the 8am roll out this morning.

There was a charity fundraising event in Dungiven (in aid of the Glenshane Community Centre) that many of the group were keen to support, so the two dozen or so pedalists headed off knowing they had a bit of climbing ahead.  There is no easy route to Dungiven, but we decided that we would go first to Tobermore, then up Lisnamuck before heading over "The Beatin”   (one for the older folks there).   By the time we passed the Ponderosa we were all nicely warmed up and had a pleasant and hasty run down into Dungiven.

In Dungiven we met our North Derry contingent of the Carn Wheelers (no point in them cycling over to Dungiven for the normal meeting place only to have to cycle back again).   These boys opted to do the longer of the two charity routes available.  The rest of us opted for the shorter route, which took us to Feeny and up to Claudy.  After Claudy we were supposed to head for the Foreglen and back to Dungiven, but,  for whatever reason,  we headed up over Loughermore and onto Limavady,  before turning off back to Dungiven ---  sure it was a grand day for it  (some great farming fields down that part of the country).

Back to Dungiven sir.  A few of the group dared not chance getting cooled down,  so they headed straight for the Glenshane Pass and home,  while the rest of us re-stocked with some refreshments in the community centre, before heading off out the Garvagh road,  cutting off for Glenullin, Drumbane, Swatragh and back to Maghera.  About 70 miles in total.

Well done to all.

Thanks and well done to the Glenshane Community Centre in Dungiven for organising the cycle run and providing us with a lovely tea  -  we hope your fundraising activities go well.
