ulster cyclocross league round 3
Sunday the 26th of October was round 3 of the ulster cyclocross league which was held at Windmill Wood in Dungannon and hosted by Island Wheelers as always Carn Wheelers were there in numbers with racers in all categories . In the morning the racing started with the youth rounds and the under 6 riders first away with Jay Gibson taking to the line and coming home strongly in his first race this season next were the u8 Patrick Elliott and Riley Gibson both racing and finishing very strongly in the u10 girls race Eimer Skelly registered the first podium finish of the day with a fine 3rd place .It was then the turn of the under 12 were Travis Harkness and Curtis Neill were 5th and 7th well done boys there was no such luck for Ryan Skelly in the u14 boys as a flat wheel ruined his chance of a strong finish in the under 14 girls Sarah Elder was 4th Katie Neill 5th and Sarah Doyle 7th next up were the under 16 and Emma Elder registered a good strong 2nd place finish well done to all our young riders who once again rode superbly well .
The first races for the senior riders were the mtb men and the cyclocross women in the mtb race Sean Bradley made a welcome return to action and put in a superb performance with a start to finish victory Darryl Mullan was also in the thick of the action and came home in 7th place with Damien Doyle returning from injury with a strong midfield finish.in the women cyclocross Mairead McCrory also had a great race with a 9th place finish.
Next to the line was the cyclocross B racers with Nigel Gibson the first Carn Wheeler home closely followed by Rodney Young Gareth Skelly and Ryan O'Reilly all 4 men are starting to get the hang of cross racing now and are moving up the leaderboard every week .
As always the final race of the day was the A race and once again Stephen Walsh was the first Carn man home in 12th place with Johnny Taylor in 17th next home was Ryan Walsh with Joe McCrory and Shane Elder rounding out the finishers for the Carn Wheelers in the A race.
As with the youth riders our senior riders are improving results week on week in what is some of the hardest racing of the cycling calender with real quality fields of riders every week well done to everyone competing .
