Weekly Round up of Road Racing News and Results

5 Jul 2015

Last week Carn wheelers we in the racing news as always with a string of results!

30/06/15 - Tue - Bann Valley - Gortmacrane

Joe McCrory  6th and Gerard Scullion 9th both making it into the top 10 on a night when scratch started off in blistering pace and after a few attacks which came to nothing, it was down to the sprint which Jason Henry took in usual form with the Carn men picking up a few results sprinting for the line.

01/07/15 - Wed - BCC - Tullaghans Long Mountain Classic Road Race

Joe McCrory and Graeme Elliot made the trip over to tackle the Tullaghan Climbs, with 4 laps of the testing circuit. Scratch again off at blistering pace, and were not all eager to work together which split the race to pieces with Joe beaten by Stuart Laverty of BCC and David Hamilton ND in the sprint of the line after some cat and mouse up the final climb.

02/07/15 - Thur - TT – Glenshane

Well Done everyone at tonights TT on the Glenshane course, some very fast times and a few PB's too!
1st - Nicky Gormley
2nd - Johnny Taylor
3rd - Mickey Scullion

04/07/15 - Sat - Donegal Race – JG Memorial

Marc Heaney has taken his second win of the season

Very attacking race, with Jonny Taylor making a few efforts to get away and after being brought back a few times, managed to get across to break of 4 already away. Marc Heaney then made it over to the break with a solo effort  and eventually a Group of 8-9 got into rythym, with both lads controlling the small group to keep it working.  JT Attacked when back on main road, but after being Closed down, he sat up opened gap to let marc and another guy get away. Mark dropped his fellow racer on the run into line and JT sprinted to 3rd from what was left of break. Micky finished in bunch but Nicky had to pull out with sore back.

Sunday 50mile TT – Tommy Givan

Sean McIntyre was crowned Ulster 50-mile time-trial champion on Sunday, but 3 Carn men made the trip to Woodgreen for the tough 50 mile TT. David Heagney was the best of the Carn men with an excellent PB time of 1:51:59 and just missing out on an ulster bronze medal for all his efforts. David is coming into form at the right time and there is surely more to come from him before the season is out.  Joe  who was aiming for under the 2hr mark as he tried to pace himself over the 50 mile distance and will be happy with a time of 1:55:20. Nicky Gorlmey who showed during Thursday nights 10m TT that he has a natural talent for this, was unlucky to have a blow out only 12 mile in, but he is definitely one to watch for some fast times before the seasons out!
