Wicklow 200 Update
Folks,
we now have only 3 more training Sundays until our big sportif – the Wicklow
200.
Below I’ve drafted up a cycling plan which
is aimed at continuing the build up of our stamina and climbing ability, so that come the
start of June, we are at the peak (every pun intended) of our physique.
NB,
although aimed primarily at those doing the Wicklow 200 challenge, we
would welcome any Carn Wheeler who wants to join us on these days.

Sun 18th May
Starting in Maghera ,
we head to Draperstown via Tobermore.
Then, a wee lung opener as we ascend the Cahore Road. Then descend down the Drumard Road and
continue through Desertmartin and on towards Moneymore. Then up to the top of Slieve Gallion and then
down again, heading for Inishcarn and then up Cullion. Down the Lough Fea road to Shippy’s, then onto Moneyneeney and then onto Dungiven
via the Burren. In Dungiven, head out
the Garvagh Road and onto the Legavallon Road.
Right hand turn onto Temple Road.
Up the hill and then down into the Glen.
Up the Legavallon Road and then down the Plantation Road. Over to the
Curraghmore Road and up Matties. Down
Drumbane Road as far as the Halfgain Road, and then (our final climb) up the
Laganes Braes. Down the Gortinure Road
for an easy spin of the legs for the last couple of miles back to Maghera.

When we reach Maghera we might have to go
